» 1978-What A Year!

Got my current issue of "World Soccer" in the mail yesterday, and on the last page-the "From the archives..." bit-they have the August 1978 issue. And they show Brian Glanville's article about the World Cup I've covered six World Cups now, and this was the worst. Won by the worst of the six team, in the worst and most unsatifactory circumstances. Disfigured by negative football, ill temper, dreadful refereeing, spiteful players, and the wanton surrender of Peru. It gets worse-you have to squint to read the rest. In the larger type section they do add his remarks about Kempes having a "pleasant attitude" only beacuse "he didn't go around kicking people like Luque, Gallego, or the ruthless Passarella." And people think he's gotten more...... - 2008-12-17

» Maintain Status vs. Save $$

I have a quick question: Should I redeem my airmiles for a trans-pacific airticket or spend $1100 on an international airticket that will earn me 20000 airmiles + an additional 50% bonus miles as a Silver Elite member and therefore, help me to maintain my Silver Elite status through 2004-2005?This may come down to personal preference; however, mine would be to save the $1100. That's some serious loot, and I wouldn't be willing to spend anywhere near that to get status. tlsDepends. First, do you need the elite status for future travels or good karma around the house? Second, do you have an extra $1100 to contribute to the airline financial assistance program? Third, are you merely exercising your constitutional right to the pursuit of hap...... - 2008-12-17

» OT att Yenhoi.

Just some chat based on a recently deleted thread I was writing to reply to... Yenhoi, while I don't agree with Royal Dragon's pov, and while I agree in part that the region known as Iraq was more civilized than many places for a long time, I feel your oversimplification of British history is as dangerous and innaccurate as Royal Dragon's oversimplification of the Iraqi situation you are addressing. Sure the British Empire was responsible for a hell of a lot of atrocities, but apart from a few obvious examples of attempted genocide (Australia, NZ) for which there are no excuses, I do not believe that the British policy was to leave colonized countries in a deliberate state of disrepair. It wouldn't have made any sense diplomatical...... - 2008-12-17

» Home Again

Hi Everyone, Just returned home, 16 days post op. Spent 2 days in ICU, 2 1/2 days on orthopedic floor than transferred to HealthSouth for about 10 days of physical therapy (what a wonderful, professional, compassionate group there). My surgery was a total of 15 hours and Dr. said he was able to give me an 80% correction, which is phenomal from what I have heard for my age group. (57 years old). I have heard 40 % is about average. I am ambulatory with a walker and considering what I have gone through quite independent. (Of course it was difficult for me to ask for help under any circumstances before, so I am going to have to grin and make a heck of an adjustment.) Well folks, would love to tell my long story but will save that fo...... - 2008-12-17

» tc and flexibility

doing tc and the meditation brings flexibility right? i know many people who've achieved things like the splits. i'm not sure if it's a result of the tai chi though cause they didn't really train before and weren't really flexible. so i'm wondering where it came from. i was taught that when you do meditation (sitting and standing) you train many things as well your muscles 'listen' to you so you become more agile and flexible. can anyone support this?I can't support your muscle training theory on meditation becasue it is partially incorrect. There are so many forms of meditation and most of them are of the use to still and centre the mind to increase concentration. Saying that meditation also trains the muscles is a big generalisation. ...... - 2008-12-17

This is written to you while sitting in the bar of YUL airport! A week before xmas this all worked fine. Tango plus ticket was no issue and i checked my lugguage and no problem. Today the CSR said I had to pay! Admittedly it is only $50 but still....when i asked about the waiting list, i was told there is no such thing and Air Canada will only move you forward if it suits them.....she even called her supervisor over to comfirm the situation. » BackgroundQuery Problem

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the BackgroundQuery (Boolean) actually does within a Query Table. I have a Macro running a Database Query to an MsAccess database and pulling data from there into Excel. It works well on my System but if I try to implement the same Macro on another System I get an error message referring to BackgroundQuery = True ... Thanks in advanceHas the second system got the connection to the database? ie a valid DSN?It has got the access, it might however be that it does not send the right password to the server and therefore cannot build the connection. I start to think of recording the Macro on the other System as well, this might take longer but at least it will w...... - 2008-12-17

» Record getAll method?

It would be nice to have a getAll method from within a Record. I am performing an operation that takes a number of Records, converts them to CSV and copies them to the clipboard. Currently it looks like I'm going to have to enumerate through the "data" property to get that array of values - no big deal but it'd be nice to have a getAll. Regards, KalebAs I considered this a bit more I realized that the Record would need to have some sort of ordering for the values as they are stored in a Hash. It seems like there would need to be some tie in to the ColumnModel or something like that - or simply make the get method accept a list of multiple field id's and return the array of those values. Thoughts?...... - 2008-12-17

I need the advice of Hasselblad shooters out there on whether my idea is workable or completely ridiculous.... Both my partner and I have been (D)SLR users for many years but it's always been a wish of hers to give a Hasselblad a try. I've found a shop in town which hires out the 501CM (with back and lens) for a very reasonable price and as it's her birthday coming up, I thought it would be good to rent one for the day. However, neither of us have ever used one before. So, my question is, am I completely mad considering this? Or with the help of the photographic rental shop and some basic instructions, we should be able to peek into the world of medium format? Any thoughts/suggestions/links appreciated! » Speaking of Portly and Missing Teeth

Gang, if you saw Donna on NJN last night then you know she's seen better days. I mean, she's really unhealthy at that weight and, yes, when she's out there complaining you can see her missing tooth (it's probably teeth, but I didn't want to look too closely.). Can someone from the Sharpe camp please get that fixed? Does she still have some sort of dental coverage? Actually, having taken a good long look at her, I now support HER effort to support the recall. I want her to be walking around Newark as many hours as she can so she can improve her conditioning. I would estimate that she has to take off at least 40 pounds just to be considered minimually healthy. » Car Gremlins

Alright, I've done some work on my car and I'm sure I've screwed something up somewhere, but perhaps one of you can point out my flaws. I strung two 12-gauge wires off the positive battery terminal through a rubber grommet, one connecting to my 400W inverter and the other to a switch, which then connects to three DC outlets. I have a 30 Amp inline fuse close to the battery on each wire. I strung 12 gauge grounds from the switch and the inverter to a big bolt underneath my car, and the ground from the DC outlets to a bolt I found under the dash. They appear to be nice metal contacts connected to the chassis. I also installed a new radio, of rather low wattage (it was one of the cheapest models they have), using the existing wiring harn...... - 2008-12-17

» Promotions Desk Ineptitude

I spoke with someone on the promotions desk last week who assured me I could use a Citibank certificate on an upcoming reservation. Today, I spoke with a supervisor who assured me I could not use the certificate on the same upcoming reservation I was ready to purchase. In the meantime, since I've been relying on using the certificate, I forewent other (less expensive) travel options, and I'm really sour on AA. Adding to this feeling is the fact that in March the promotions desk pulled the same crap with me! I have Platinum status and I don't think it's in AA's best interest to lose me as a customer over a $100 certificate. Who should I write to? Do you have an e-mail address for that person? » Section Breaks in a form

Hmmm...no message icon showing a smilie pulling out its hair....I am going crazy trying to make this work, and I'm hoping someone can pull me back from the brink of insanity! OK. I have set up a form for a trucking company. There are many text form fields, and they are working just fine. The problem is that in one cell (the Additional Information cell), their secretary will need to type in any additional information related to the transaction - possibly a lot of stuff will be going in there. So I have dutifully read the information on this site (for which I am very grateful), and I have learned that a text form field will not work in this situation, I must use a section break and unprotect that section. I have tried adding a secti...... - 2008-12-17

» Filter Size (Lens Diameter) and Exposure

Been looking to upgrade my walk-about lens lately, and I've been trying to wrap my head around filter sizes. Google was no help, so I thought I'd bring it here. What is the difference, in terms of the amount of light coming in, between say a lens with a 58mm filter size and a lens with a 77mm filter size? Does the 77mm let in more light, allowing for a faster exposure? Or is there some other advantage I'm missing? You are sort of on the right track...but looking at the wrong thing and putting the cart before the horse. A lens with a bigger maximum aperture will let in more light...and that will be in the name of the lens as an F number. Now, in order to get that larger maximum aperture, lenses often have to be designed with a large...... - 2008-12-17

» windowwasher in santa fe

i was in santa fe a few weeks ago, and saw this guy . . . he was pretty cool, his name is dane and he washes windows. 1 http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p120/newrmdmike/washer4.jpg 2 http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p120/newrmdmike/washer2.jpg 3 http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p120/newrmdmike/washer1.jpg please let me know what you think!I think that the last one is absolutely superb! The light on his face coming through the window he's washing, his gear tucked into his belt and the towels over his shoulder, Dane being "in action" ... very well captured moment with the right exposure and DOF. The noise does not bother me at all (or does it when I notice it?).The whole mood of these shots are great! Sweet captures! The noise bot...... - 2008-12-17

I went out yesterday to Ginter garden.. Had a fabulous time looking at all the flowers... Took some pictures I wanted to share. » Chi??

I'm interested in the whole chi theory & was hoping that someone here can give me some advice on how I can improve my inner strength, etc. thanxThere are heaps of books around on the topic. I'll see if I can find the details of some for you. Ultimately, developing Chi is all about breathing. And practice. You don't exercise chi, you exercise your body and your spirit, and chi just happens. If you worry about exercising your chi, and this is the focus of your practice, then you will not get anywhere. If you are interested in serious internal development, it is a long term process that must start out with a rigorous adherence to basic principles of body posture. This is where you should begin. An instructor of internal practices is almost ...... - 2008-12-17

» Trojan Horse

Truly OMNI! I do quite a bit of my FTing from home on my own PC. In the last week I appear to have been bitten by a virus...I guess it is really not a virus, but a "trojan horse". A program captures my AOL password and emails it to someone. I was able to get around it tonight somehow, but I want to get rid of it for good. No response to an email from AOL. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them? I'm really not very PC-inclined. Help!!!Gee, MJW, if I could help you I would, but I don't know much of that kind of stuff. Ask AnnaS. She is a WIZZ as are a bunch of other flyertalkers. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifThere's probably fixes for this trojan horse, but I don't know where to direct you. » Thanks all for successful segment running

I just want to says thanks to all who post in this forum for educating me on the art of mileage run. This year due to unexpected change of travel patterns, I found myself short on EQM/EQS to re-qualify for 1K. With the SWUs in mind, I decided to go segment-running. To obtain the 20 EQS needed, I flew and will fly the longest LGA-ORD R/T in my life with 4 segments each way, twice. I visited airports that I have never been and stopped in states that I have never stepped foot on. Then to top it off, a LGA-MSP same day return trip (my first same day return with 30 minutes at "destination"). By telling others the story, I have officially been certified mad among my friends. Finding the right fares was not as difficult as I originally...... - 2008-12-17

» Ext.query custom attributes w/IE 6

I'm trying to query Input Fields using custom attributes. It works in every browser except IE6 (shocking). What's strange is Ext.query does return two objects (Which is correct) but the ID of those names are ext-gen37 and ext-gen39. Those two names don't exist in the DOM. It's like its making them up. If I change the type from INPUT to a DIV it works correctly. Ext.each(Ext.query("*[qhvg=Test]"),function(X){ alert(X.id); }); If I try the frame effect on those objects the effect occurs where there is nothing on the screen. I would think this is an IE problem and not an Ext issue but the fact it returns two objects that dont exist is odd. Any ideas?Notice if I do my select by class... select(".testclass") it also has pr...... - 2008-12-17

» Album cover art not displaying

i've got a strange problem, and unfortunately i don't know how/when it started. i was using a pretty old build (maybe by 3-4 months) and i just decided to upgrade to t3chs 3-16-06 build. i'm using xbmc as my main dashboard. i'm streaming all my music over the network using smb shares. i have individual folders for every album with a "folder.jpg" within each one. when i loaded xbmc after upgrading, i go to my music and it pulls down all the cover art with no issue. now when i go into my music, all cover art displays properly as it always has. if i go into any album and play a track, the info displays on screen along with the cover art. but when i select a playlist and it queues up all the tracks, when it displays the info of the currently p...... - 2008-12-17

» Laptop RAM DDR2

hi friends, I want to upgrade my RAM (512MB) with an additional 1GB. Would it be compatible. If so then which is the best one what would be its price. Its better to get the same RAM manufacturer as your existing. What is the exact model of your laptop?my exact model is : COMPAQ PRESARIO V3018TU. How can I check what is my RAM's brand??For compatibility issue, read laptop manual. 1) What type of memory and how much memory is supported. You can buy RAM of any brand. This is not a problem. Prefer Kingston/ Transend.@ritish: Your laptop supports 533MHz memory and is installed with 512MB RAM. I would suggest to opt for Transcend's 533MHz modules as it is preffered OEM supplier for many laptop makers (including HP, Compaq, Sony etc.).thanks ...... - 2008-12-17

» Setanta un-defecates on Bundesliga coverage

I guess that's the correct title. Setanta has reached new low on the Hamburg X Bayern Munich game. I am watching it on a tape. It's already 20 minutes, and it's still has no commentary. Just the stadium noise. I guess Setanta is the firm believer of "raw feed"... The problem is, Setanta does not have a studio host to do commentary on the fly as a back up, nor does it have a statement scrolling "there is an audio problem ..." Do people prefer a Hopkins yapping or no commentary at all?I'd prefer sigh language to Hopkins and i don't understand itI guess that's the correct title. » Haven't been here for a while

But I'm sitting in an office building in Beijing right now, and thought of this place. Sorry there are no crazy kf stories to tell. No one who can leap 30 ft in the air, and no Gm's climbing up flag poles using their pectoral muscles. However, if I see them, I will be sure to sign them to a UFC contract. OTOH, the Olympic Buildings are going up at a rapid pace, and you will see mostly picture perfect images next year, I'm sure. The city itself is very interesting, as you still find the remains of old Communism, which contrasts with the new ever growing wealthy China. Anyway, glad to know nothing much has changed here. The rest of the world seems to be moving along pretty well.Figured I'd respond since nobody else has yet... Here's...... - 2008-12-17

» Best Practice for Processing Forms with JS

I'm wondering if any experienced ExtJs users care to weigh in on what the best practices may be for processing Ext forms with Javascript. I'm in the process of porting over a large DHTML/Ajax application to ExtJs. In the application we're using numerous pop-up dialogs that are done with a homegrown component. For consistency of appearance, I'm attempting to replace the use of the home grown component with modal Ext.Window components. I'm using FormPanel in the Windows. Rather than submiting the form to the server, I need to simply process the forms on the windows with Javascript. I'm wondering what the best approach for this is? I'm designing my port of the application (its huge) so that scripts to produce layouts (such as the pop-u...... - 2008-12-17

» Minimum Wage Debate PROOVES Neocon have WON!!!

There is no debate that proves the complete victory of neocons in this era as the debate over the mimimum wage. Democrats have to BEG just to get the mimimum wage up to $6.00, when, in fact, if the mimimum wage had been keeping up with inflation it would be nearly twice that mark. But here's where you can see the dominance of the neocons. Neocons can give away TRILLIONS to the richest 10% in this nation and that "spurs the economy." However, if you give a minimum wage worker what amounts to little more than $700 after taxes that supposedly "spurs inflation." So let me get this right - The rich getting TRILLIONS they can't spend is good. The working poor getting hundreds that will be absorbed the minute they earn it is bad. Unbelievable the ...... - 2008-12-17
